Getting Started with xClause

Last updated: 10/20/2018

xClause is a contract lifecycle platform for Managed Service Providers (MSPs). This guide walks you through signing up, completing your profile, and taking your first actions in the product.

Step 1 — Create your account and complete your profile

After signing up, you land on the MSP onboarding flow at /onboarding/msp. There are two steps:

  1. Basic information — Enter your MSP's name and business details. You cannot advance to plan selection until a real company name is saved (the placeholder "My MSP" does not count).

  2. Choose your plan — Select one of the three plans:

    PlanPriceTemplatesClauses
    Starter$99.99/mo25
    Pro$199/mo510
    White-Label$248/moUnlimitedUnlimited

Analytics and client transfers require Pro or White-Label. A $49/mo add-on is also available.

Invited or referred MSPs skip payment. If your account was created through a partner invitation or an MSP referral, the plan step is automatically satisfied and you go straight to the dashboard.

Step 2 — Land in setup

Once your profile and plan are complete, xClause sends you to one of two places depending on your account configuration:

  • AI-guided setup (/agent?onboarding=true) — An AI assistant walks you through the activation steps conversationally. This route is only available when the conversational onboarding feature is enabled on your account.
  • Dashboard with Setup Progress pill — A persistent sidebar pill shows how many activation steps remain. It clears automatically as you complete each one.

Step 3 — Complete the 4 core activation steps

The Setup Progress pill tracks four core steps. Each one checks off automatically when your account data confirms it is done — you do not need to mark them manually.

  1. Upload your SOW — Go to /sow-versions/new?flow=upload and drop in your existing Statement of Work (PDF or DOCX). xClause extracts deliverables, pricing, SLAs, and custom sections, then produces an editable draft you save as your default template. Estimated time: 5 minutes.

  2. Add your first client — Create a real client and send them a portal invite. Demo or sandbox clients do not count toward this step. Estimated time: 1 minute.

  3. Send your first MSA + SOW — Create and send a bundled Master Service Agreement (MSA) and Statement of Work to a real client. Sandbox runs do not check this off. Estimated time: 3 minutes.

  4. Connect Slack or Teams — Link your team workspace so you and your team can use the Daemon AI assistant directly from Slack or Microsoft Teams. Go to Settings > Integrations to connect. Estimated time: 2 minutes.

Next steps after activation

Once the core steps are done, the setup checklist surfaces optional steps you can tackle in any order:

  • Invite team members — Go to /team to add colleagues and set their roles.
  • Enable two-factor authentication — Go to Settings > Profile to secure your account.
  • Migrate existing contracts — Use the contract import wizard at /contracts/import to bring in signed MSAs or SOWs. xClause extracts key details and sets up tracking.
  • Review SOW versions — Fine-tune advanced version settings at /sow-versions.
  • Set your preferences — Configure default contract terms, SOW line items, and managed units at /preferences.
  • Schedule an onboarding call — Book a short call with the xClause team.

Try the AI assistant

The Daemon AI assistant is available from the sidebar at any time. You can ask it to draft a contract, look up a client, or answer questions about your setup. It is also the entry point for the guided onboarding flow if your account has that feature enabled.
